Moms Can Raise Their Families While Running A Business

busy moms run both their families and businessMothers raising a family while running a business can be a daunting task. Momapreneurs, especially single mothers, are faced with an enormous task when it comes to managing their home and business. Both require superb time management skills, working together as a team, and a little luck to go your way once in awhile. Here are a few tips for mothers who are thinking of running their own business or entrepreneurs looking to start a family:

1) Pace yourself: Running a business and raising a family should be both treating like running a marathon. Slow and steady will win the race. In our current fast-paced lifestyle, it’s easy for anyone to burn out, let alone somebody raising a family and running their own business.

2) Make time for yourself: Family can be all-consuming. Throw managing your own business on top of that and that’s a recipe for personal disaster.  Utilize family, friends, and babysitters once in awhile to just get out and let loose. Since your vacation time will probably be spent with your children and Blackberry, it is very important to set aside little vacations for yourself throughout the year. Play hooky and get to a spa or golf course once in awhile. Preserving your mental and emotional state of mind will not only increase your chances of survival, but also the survival of your two dependents…the kids and work.

3) Ditch the procrastination. An efficient office and household is a smoother and happier one. Do what’s urgent first. And if you cannot get to the others in the allotted time, it will simply have to wait. Use a planner to keep track of business meetings as well as your children’s teacher meetings or extra-curricular activities (remember that missed soccer game?).  To avoid the fast-food syndrome, pre-prepare meals, healthy and nutritious ones, to make meal times a pleasure rather than a nightmare.
